David’s areas of practice are medical and professional negligence, commercial law, inquests and personal injury. He is regularly instructed as an advocate in the High Court and the County Court as well as Coroners’ Courts across England and Wales. He has extensive experience of acting in all of these areas, both in his own right and as part of a team in large and multi-party litigation. He has been instructed in medical and professional negligence claims of the highest order of seriousness and complexity and regularly appears in inquests featured in the national press.

He has extensive experience of claims against solicitors and barristers arising out of a range of areas, including:
His expertise in medical negligence and personal injury means he is frequently instructed in matters arising out of the under-settlement of personal injury claims.
He is also instructed in professional negligence claims involving valuers, insurance brokers and independent financial advisors, as well as other professionals. He has regularly defended claims against mortgage advisers.
David acts for both claimants and defendants in clinical negligence claims; he is instructed in claims against NHS Trusts and Health Boards, general practitioners, dentists and optometrists. He has a rigorous approach to pleadings and has experience of drafting schedules and counter-schedules in claims of the highest value. He has extensive experience of assisting with ADR as sole counsel, including mediation.
David has acted in complex, multi-handed clinical negligence litigation, and was instructed as junior counsel in the Ian Paterson litigation. Before coming to the Bar, David worked in the personal injury and clinical negligence departments of a leading firm of claimant solicitors in London, dealing particularly with high-value claims.
David also has broad experience of medical inquests and often acts in associated Fatal Accidents claims.
David has a very extensive range of inquest experience. He has acted in numerous multi-week hearings, both with and without a jury, and is familiar with many of the coroners in the London area and further afield. He is used to acting in ‘Article 2’ inquests as well as ordinary ‘Jamieson’ inquests.
David’s experience of medical inquests includes cases involving babies, complex surgery and rare diseases. He has extensive experience of inquests relating to mental health care and frequently acts in cases involving multiple interested persons, including prisons and the police. His background in clinical negligence means that he is also able to assist on related civil claims (see ‘Clinical Negligence’ above).
Many of David’s inquests have been covered in the national press. He is happy to assist with the drafting of press statements.
David’s practice in personal injury goes hand in hand with his clinical negligence practice. He is frequently instructed as a trial advocate and regularly advises at all stages of litigation. His rigorous approach to pleadings can often lead to early settlement. He has acted in numerous cases involving cyclists.
Before coming to the Bar, David worked in the personal injury and clinical negligence departments of a leading firm of Claimant solicitors in London, dealing particularly with high-value claims.
David is frequently instructed on commercial cases, including banking claims, PPI claims, contractual disputes, landlord and tenant and insolvency matters. He has been instructed in very high value commercial arbitration. David has a depth of trial experience in the courts; he frequently appears in cases involving contractual disputes.
