Hailsham was established as a set of chambers over 100 years ago and past members include Eleanor Sharpston, former Advocate-General at the European Court of Justice, the late law lord, Lord Diplock, and Quintin Hogg, the former Lord Chancellor, the late Lord Hailsham of St. Marylebone. Today, Chambers is home to 55 barristers who provide legal advice to a wide range of clients.

As with all sets of Barristers’ chambers at the time, Hailsham Chambers (which was formerly known as 4 Paper Buildings) was originally a generalist set with its members undertaking both general civil and criminal work. However, over the course of time Chambers’ practice has become specialised and today, members of the set focus on professional liability; medical law; costs litigation; regulatory and disciplinary; personal injury; and commercial law.

The current Head of Chambers is Julian Picton QC and Stephen Smith is Hailsham’s Senior Clerk.
